Depending upon the season an Ibis is born in certain magical powers will manifest themselves.
Generally magic begins to appear between the ages of 5 to 20 years of age though late bloomers aren't too uncommon.
An Ibis must first pass the Rites of Mana in order to master the basics of their element. During this trial, a natural affinity for one of the two magic types associated with the season they were born will usually appear.
After the trial is passed an Ibis will stick with a single element for the rest of it's life.
Some more knowledge hungry Ibis will even begin down the road towards complete mastery of their element through years of training and more advanced trials.

Autumn Mana Charm by EnlightenedCervibis

Autumn

Earth

Fawns with newly awakened powers will find their affiliation with the earth as the ground vibrates beneath their feet. Before properly trained most of this affinity is limited to shifting the ground beneath them or moving small stones. Once properly mastered in the element, ibis can control the shape and form of the ground beneath them. Earthen Ibis can create great caverns for the herd to find shelter in, form stone and earthen structures, and even shift the ground to provide fertile fields. In battle Earthen Ibis will shift the ground causing it to be difficult to move or approach them. They have a very strong defense with a slow but hard hitting offense.

At all tiers, these slow-moving ibis aren't in a hurry. They are just a touch stockier than their other brethren, and they pack a wallop. They make excellent guardians and craftsibis.

Fawns with newly awakened powers will find that their bodies are unusually warm and they will occasionally burn the ground around them. Before taking up training with the Autumn god, fawns can normally create the air close to their bodies to heat up and can occasionally create small wisps of fire about the size of a candle flame. Once the rites of mana are complete, Ibis are able to heat their bodies to extreme temperatures and focus this heat into a controllable fire. Fire Ibis commonly use large flame wisp spells to help burn thick brush or attack pursuers. Because of their body heat they have decent defense and great offense in battle.

Water

Young fawns with newly awakened affinity tend to find themselves attracted to bodies of water and the water will ripple towards them. Dew and small droplets gravitate towards the fawns and it isn't uncommon for small rain clouds to form nearby when distraught. Some fawns can even effect the state of the water freezing it into sheets or sharp spikes of ice. After training is complete, water affiliated Ibis are able to use the moisture in the air, ground or plants to create small clean reservoirs for the herd, clean, water plants, or even create dense water surfaces to walk across. In battle water Ibis are very flexible fighters with more focus on slowing attacker movement or pushing them away.

At all tiers, these ibis naturally gravitate towards water of all kinds. They're exceptional swimmers. They tend to shy away from conflict.

Tier 1:

  • Summon Typhoon - large amounts of water may be controlled/summoned from the atmosphere, ground, and plants
  • Ocean Brethren - ability to breath salt and brackish water for up to six minutes

Darkness

Fawns with awakened affinity towards darkness tend to be surrounded in shadow. The area around them can darken or the shadows at their feet will move in odd ways, almost taking on a life of their own based on the Ibis' emotions. Once trained, dark Ibis have the ability to shroud an area in darkness and control shadows to the point of them becoming "spectral" helpers. Dark Ibis also have the ability to see in all degrees of light, giving them a great advantage at night or in dark caverns. In battle the shadows can be used to hold onto assailants while the ibis drowns the area in blackness. Some have even been known to twist the dark enough to create terrifying images.

In all tiers, these ibis are exceptionally stealthy and love nighttime. They are highly defensive in a fight.

Tier 1:
  • Shadow Play - An Ibis' shadow moves unnaturally as if alive, it can bind to another's shadow for short periods temporarily restraining them
Tier 2:

  • Darksight - see in any level of darkness

  • Solid Shadow - shadows within a hundred feet may be controlled and made solid, with a sponge-like texture but may be hardened to a flesh-like consistency for short periods of time
  • Spectre - create a sphere of darkness within fifteen feet of the caster, can deform it to fit their needs
